At The Little Dreamers Nursery, we passionately believe in laying a strong educational foundation for our children, setting them on a path to lifelong learning and success. Our Foundation Stage 2 (FS2) program is meticulously crafted to harness the curiosity and creativity of young minds, focusing intensely on nurturing emergent literacy and numeracy skills. Through an innovative blend of the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) framework and the Development Matters guidance, FS2 at The Little Dreamers is where the journey of reading and writing begins, and the love for learning flourishes.
In FS2, our mission transcends beyond the traditional confines of early education. We aim to ignite a passion for knowledge, fostering a deep-seated love for reading and writing among our young learners. Our dedicated educators employ a child-centric approach, recognizing and nurturing individual talents and learning styles, ensuring that every child feels supported, engaged, and motivated.
Understanding the pivotal role of reading in educational development, our FS2 program emphasises phonics and early literacy skills. Utilising engaging and interactive methods, children embark on a phonetic journey exploring sounds, letters, and words. Our structured yet flexible approach allows children to progress at their own pace, fostering confidence and a sense of achievement as they begin to decode text, engage with stories, and develop comprehension skills.
Our literacy-rich environment is designed to stimulate interest and curiosity in reading. From cosy reading nooks filled with a diverse range of books to storytime sessions that captivate and inspire, we create numerous opportunities for children to immerse themselves in the magical world of stories and literature.
Writing in FS2 is not just about holding a pencil; it’s about expressing thoughts, sharing ideas, and communicating with the world. Through a variety of hands-on activities, children explore mark-making, gradually progressing to writing letters, words, and eventually, sentences. Our emphasis on fine motor skills ensures that children develop the dexterity and control needed for writing, while creative projects and journaling activities encourage them to use writing as a form of expression and communication.
Mathematics in FS2 is an exciting adventure, filled with exploration and discovery. Our program covers fundamental concepts such as counting, number recognition, shapes, space, and measures, integrating these skills into everyday activities and play. We strive to make maths meaningful and fun, using practical experiences that children can relate to, thus building a solid foundation for future mathematical learning and reasoning.
At The Little Dreamers Nursery, FS2 is not just about academic learning; it’s about developing the whole child. We integrate the arts, physical education, and understanding the world into our curriculum, providing a holistic education that nurtures creativity, physical health, and a broad understanding of the world. Our inclusive approach celebrates diversity, encourages empathy, and fosters social and emotional development.
As our FS2 children prepare to transition to the next stage of their educational journey, they carry with them not just the skills, but the confidence, curiosity, and love for learning that will serve them throughout their lives. At The Little Dreamers Nursery, we are not just teaching children to read and write; we are inspiring them to dream, explore, and achieve.

Every child’s motor skills progress at their own pace. We have various activities to improve fine motor skills. Children who struggle with fine motor skills may have difficulty doing tasks such as gripping utensils, manipulating things with their fingertips, utilizing instruments such as scissors and even tying a pair of shoe laces. Try these entertaining games to improve your child’s fine motor skills.
When it comes to self-care, play and learning to write, among other things, children require strong fine motor abilities that can be developed via practice. There are several activities to improve fine motor skills and help reach fine motor milestones such as self-feeding, dressing, and putting together a 24-piece puzzle. Improving fine motor skills for preschoolers is critical to their future self-sufficiency and ability to succeed in school.
What do children learn in nursery
Placing Stickers After Peeling Them Off
Have your youngster peel off stickers that you have placed on their hands or clothing. You may make it even more challenging for your child by drawing open circles on the paper. Peeling a sticker is a step toward the pincer grasp needed to hold something between the thumb and the first finger.
Another activity to improve fine motor skills is threading Cheerios across a sturdy object (such as a pipe cleaner or a strand of uncooked spaghetti). Use a piece of string for more of a challenge.
Rip paper into little pieces for a mosaic craft, as with unsnapping the snaps on a jacket. As one of the activities to build fine motor skills, this bimanual practice helps build hand strength and coordination by requiring both hands to use a tripod grasp.
